The Military Order of Purple Heart is a national organization of combat wounded veterans.

Chapter 638 serves seven counties in northwest North Carolina with over 200 dues-paying members.

Former Marines, soldiers, sailors, and airmen who were wounded in WWII, Korea, Vietnam, or Iraq make up the membership. The picture above shows some at the Christmas parade in Mt. Airy, North Carolina in 2007. The pictures below show others in route to Washington, D.C and gathered for breakfast to participate in Veterans Day activities there.

Members volunteer at the Veteran’s Hospital in Salisbury and at the VA Clinic in Winston-Salem. We make donations to the VA hospitals at Asheville and Salisbury. Our chapter’s members attend welcome home ceremonies for active-duty forces returning from duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Homeless veterans are helped by one-to-one counseling, clothing, and assistance in securing temporary shelter.

Chapter funds come from business and corporate donations, personal donations by citizens through members, money collected by members at entrances to Walmart stores, and from annual dues and donations to the national organization. The Women’s Auxiliary of the Military Order of Purple Heart also raises money to donate to the VA hospitals to help families.

Meetings occur throughout the region where leaders and members discuss, decide, and report on activities aimed at promoting awareness of and helping combat wounded veterans in the area.

We can do more to help veterans with your support. Donations are tax deductible. Feel free to email me with questions. Your message can be sent to me by clicking on the envelope below.

Thank you for your support and have a good week!

Yours in Patriotism,

Mike Mabe
